Bert Jansch‘s third album, Jack Orion, was released in 1966 and found the folk singer diving into the vast catalog of traditional folk. Blending instrumental numbers with compelling folk storytelling, Jack Orion is a dreamy thirty minute trip into the past. One of the highlights is the swirling instrumental version of the Scottish song “Henry Martin.” Devoid of its story, this take is haunting and sublime, the rattling and rambling guitar sounding like the swirl of ghosts. Superior Viaduct releases the album today as part of its ongoing Bert Jansch reissue campaign.
