Okay, so I have to admit that though I found the DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince to be quite corny, I didn’t mind a few of their songs. One I particularly enjoyed was “A Nightmare On My Street,” which was written for but not included on the soundtrack to Nightmare On Elm Street 4. But controversy sells, and as the song became a hit, it also became embroiled in a legal battle, as the band was sued for copyright infringement. Eventually the suit was settled, but its exclusion from the film series always seemed quite odd to me. It fit nicely; Will Smith‘s singing and rapping were excellent, and he was quite a convincing ghost story teller/rapper. The song kicked off their second album, the internationally successful He’s The DJ, I’m The Rapper, which has just been reissued and expanded by Real Gone Music. Smith’s singing career would soon detour into acting, and he’d eventually abandon it–but hey, he’s a fine actor, so it works out…
He’s The DJ, I’m The Rapper is available now via Real Gone Music.
