We loved the intelligent nonstop disco fund of New York based Scissor Sisters, who made disco fun again 15 years ago. Sadly they’ve been on hiatus, but their members have not stopped making music, and front man Jake Shears recently released a self-titled solo album debut. Although he doesn’t completely revisit Scissor Sisters territory, there is a definite 1970s vibe to his music, and listening to the album it is not hard to hear a definite Elton John influence in the wonderful “Sad Song Backwards.” (The Elton John influence perhaps isn’t that surprising, considering he was a fan and collaborator with the New York troupe.) Still, this album is a fantastic offering from an underrated and too long silent talent.
