Something very wonderful happened last week, and you might’ve missed it––Piroshka, the new band from Lush lead singer Miki Bereyni, released its debut song. Unsurprisingly, it sounds quite familiar; it’s brooding but upbeat, featuring Miki over a post punk groove with keyboards that sounds a wee bit too much like Joy Division‘s “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” (We are absolutely okay with that, though.) And yes, it does sound like a Lush song, even though the band has promised that the album doesn’t sound much like her former band at all. We’ll have to wait and see, but we don’t mind if it does or not. Their debut album, Brickbat, is set for release in February via Bella Union, and we couldn’t be more excited.
