The first quarter of 2019 is already looking promising in terms of new music, and one record we are definitely excited about is the newest offering from Mercury Rev. their latest album is different from all previous releases, and that it is a straightforward cover of the mysterious and reclusive country singer Bobbie Gentry‘s 1968 album, The Delta Sweete. The album features a plethora of vocalists (see the above artwork for a complete list), and this track features Mazzy Star vocalist Hope Sandoval. It’s a dreamy rendition of a Jimmy Smith song that was made famous by Elvis Presley, but in Jonathan Donahue and Grasshopper‘s hands they have turned it into a song that is all Mercury Rev.
