We’ve been more than impressed by the singles from San Francisco based artist Holly Herndon‘s forthcoming 4AD album PROTO, and the latest taste is no exception. If there’s been one unfortunate criticism of the label in recent years, it’s that its roster doesn’t necessarily connect with its formidable and influential past. “Frontier,” however, most certainly does, however. It’s an amazing number that blends the ancient sound of former label mates Dead Can Dance with a cut-and-paste aesthetic that is absolutely spellbinding. PROTO is out next week, and promises to be one of the best albums of the year.
