The members of Memphis Soul band Southern Avenue may be young, but I’ll be danged if they don’t know and understand the magical recipe of musical styles several generations older than them. Calling them “retro” is to serve them an injustice, as they sound quite fresh and at home in traditional soul. Their second album, Keep On, was released last week, and one of the album’s highlights is “Lucky,” a powerful romantic ballad sung with great passion by vocalist Tierinii Jackson. Keep On is an impressive record from a young band that’s clearly going places.
