The Neil Young archival series rolls on, and the newest release is a stunner. Recorded in February 1973 at a gig in Alabama, Tuscaloosa captures most of that night’s set–the tape Young had didn’t have the full set, and he opted not to release a few tracks, stating he didn’t feel the performances were worthy or that there were too many versions of them available. Such may be the case, but it’s a minor quibble. He and his band at the time, Stray Gators, were in fine form, with Harvest highlight “Old Man” being a most powerful and sublime performance.
