Though he’s been active with numerous collaborations and one-offs over the past three decades, Cabaret Voltaire co-founder Stephen Mallinder has only released one solo album, 1983’s Pow Wow. In October, he’s set to release his second solo album, Um Dada, and the first taste of it, “Working (You Are),” shows him well aware of his role in defining the sound of Industrial Music and EBM. It delights in its computerized techno groove, with his manipulated vocals adding a nice spice to the whole affair. But what makes it nice is that it’s the sound of a master mundanely flaunting his genius and showing the kids how it’s done.
