Former Centro-matic/South San Gabriel frontman Will Johnson‘s solo career may be low key, but it’s certainly not for lack of quality. His newest album, Wire Mountain, is a work of stunning beauty that features some of his best songwriting and arranging to date. It’s a dark and dreary affair, to be sure, but on “Cornelius,” he takes his skills to a whole new level. Featuring a choir of backing singers, legendary Texas rocker Jon Dee Graham on scorching Crazy Horse-worthy guitars, and an undeniable singalong melody, it’s easily one of his finest works to date.
