Last year, former Talk Talk bassist Paul Webb released his second album as Rustin Man, Drift Code. Unfortunately, the album’s release was soon overshadowed by the death of his friend and former bandmate Mark Hollis. A year later, he’s returning with a new album, Clockdust. The first single, “Jackie’s Room,” offers up a delightfully idiosyncratic number. Recalling Bowie, Syd Barrett, and, oddly enough, collaborator Beth Gibbons‘ band Portishead, “Jackie’s Room” is weird,. But it’s a very good weird. It’s the kind of weird that makes you go back and listen again and again to see what you might have missed the first time around.
