Rightly or wrongly, the Deep South doesn’t get a lot of respect. Yet there are plenty of good people who are quite content in the most rural of rural regions, where things move a little bit slower, pretension has no quarter, and where you can be as social or antisocial as you want. Critically acclaimed songwriter Will Kimbrough has seemingly taken a shine to the area, as his latest album is a collection of deep blues, with title track “I Like It Down Here” being a tribute to the gritty, shady, and hardscrabble culture found down South.
PS. I like it down here, too.
