Okay, we love a cryptic and abstract love song, and we love a play on words as well. Is Cate Le Bon talking about “nudes” in the strictest sense of the word? Is she making an aural pun, utilizing her unique Yoko Ono-meets-Nico style voice to really mean “news?” Or is it something completely unrelated to my hypotheses, something totally open to interpretation? My guess is the latter. Not that it matters; it’s a beautiful, melancholic song that defies easy explanation or interpretation–just like Cate Le Bon. The rest of the album it comes from, Reward, is equally confounding and undefinable. And we wouldn’t want her any other way.
